An English Heather Garden

Rock Spray Nursery, established in 1980 specializes in growing and selling to you the fascinating family of plants known as HEATH and HEATHER. We have added new varieties to our offerings for 2008, along with new photographs showing the many different flower colors, shapes and sizes. We have been growing these plants for 18 years now, both in our own gardens and in pots here at the farm where tens of thousands are grown annually. Strolling by them on a warm spring day, a hot summer evening or a chilly winter afternoon, you can't help but to slow down the pace a bit to admire and appreciate their unique characteristics. After all these years, their beauty still leaves us breathless as we stop to gaze. Here are several facts you should know about this group of plants..

BUDSS.GIF (2024 bytes)Heather has evergreen and often colorful foliage which gives the garden
year-round interest even during the bleakest months of winter.

Growth habits range from the diminutive to the tall and billowy.
BUDSS.GIF (2024 bytes)Flowering times differ among the cultivars; hardly a month goes by
without one of the many species of heather flowering!

BUDSS.GIF (2024 bytes)Once established in the garden, heather is tolerant of long periods
of drought.

BUDSS.GIF (2024 bytes)Heather can thrive in even the leanest of soils in half to full day sun.
Just provide them with a well drained soil prepared with plenty of peat moss
and mulch well.

BUDSS.GIF (2024 bytes)Heather is a low maintenance plant needing only annual pruning and
mulching to promote vigorous growth, which will reward you with healthy and
heavy flowering plants.

BUDSS.GIF (2024 bytes)The hardy species of Calluna and Erica have hundreds of cultivars.
The diversity among them whether flower, foliage or habit is truly amazing!
